R & R featuring the best music of the big band era, Broadway, and light jazz
Ray ----- Liebau ----- Ruth
Ray and Ruth have been making music for
over 110 years --- that's COMBINED years of experience!
They
specialize in the music of "Broadway and the Big Band Era," and are
the perfect choice for wedding receptions,
private parties, service
club entertainment, openings of commercial establishments,
formal
dinners --- anywhere that "elevator music" is desired.
Ruth has a college degree in vocal
performance, and she has sung leading roles in opera and musical
theater.
She has given numerous solo recitals, and has provided
musical entertainment on hundreds of occasions.
Ruth is a published
lyricist, and is currently involved in a project featuring some of
her poetry for children.
Ray has college degrees in piano
performance, has performed as soloist or accompanist, is a published
composer and arranger,
and has played commercial music since his
early teen years. For thirty years he taught piano and composition
at the
University of Mississippi where he was selected as the
Outstanding Teacher in 1993. In the summer of 1999 Ruth and Ray
retired
to the Hot Springs area of Arkansas. Their most recent
musical project is a recital of songs by George Gershwin
which they
have performed successfully at colleges and community colleges in
the mid-South.
Ray has composed virtually all his life
--- who can forget his "Waltz For My Mother," and his dirge for
his
cocker spaniel, "Sandy Died Of Pneumonia" --- ? Seriously, even
though he achieved success as a young pianist,
including a full
scholarship to college, Ray continued to compose for the best
musical performers available to him.
His earliest compositions were
for piano, but his complete works include, songs, three musicals,
pieces for jazz ensemble,
and a number of choral works. His
greatest musical association was with Dr. Jerry Jordan, then
Director of Choral Activities at
the University of Mississippi.
Together with the wonderful youngsters in the choir, they shared
almost
fifteen years of unqualified success (1984 - 1999). Probably
the most popular work to emerge is an
arrangement of "He's Got The
Whole World In His Hands" (published by Walton Music).
There are a
number of other works to which Dr. Jordan applied his genius, and
the students provided their hearts and their voices.
All of them
received successful audience acceptance and are listed on this site
for your examination.
